Ecuadorean killed in New York buried at home

Summary
Jose Oswaldo Sucuzhanay, an Ecuadorean immigrant was brutally killed near his home in Brooklyn on December 7th. Sucuzhanay was a 31 year old real estate agent. He was attacked by a group of men who shouted anti-Latino and anti-gay slurs as they kicked him and beat him with an aluminum baseball bat. He died after five days in a coma. NYC police are still looking for the three suspects. Many people in southern Ecuador have relatives in the U.S. and the attack caused a wave of fear. Lawmakers and Hispanic groups have denounced Sucuzhanay's death, recent killings have led to the call to pass new hate crime laws.
Opinion
I heard about this on the news. There has been many Hispanic killings that have taken place. I think it is due to the high unemployment in the U.S. Many Hispanics will work harder and for less and that causes frustration between the other races. It doesn't give them a right by all means to kill them, but i think that is what is causing this high tension. I think that during these economic times we should have a very strict limit on how many immigrants we allow into the United States.

Riot, hostage situation end at Texas prison

Summary
Inmates of a Western Texas detention center started a riot and set a fire in the facility on Saturday. The warden of the Reeves County Detention Center refused to comment on the riot. Teams of law enforcement officers gained control and returning the facility to prison personnel. No law enforcement personnel were injured. In an act to get better medical treatment Inmates who included immigration detainees took two prison employees hostage after starting the riot. A negotiator was called in to take inmates. Also fire crews and additional law enforcement were called to the prison facility. The prison holds more than 2,400 inmates.
Opinion
What i think that sparked this riot was the frustration of illegal immigrants being allowed into the U.S. Plus they were asking for better medical treatment makes you think of the health care in the United States for the immigrants. Gladly no one was injured. I think that the U.S. should quit housing so many immigrants in our prisons. I think it would be a good idea to send them back to their country where they can be held in prison because those kind of people are taking our tax money that could be used towards something of greater value.

Ill. governor arrested on corruption charges

summary
Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday for trying to sell his senate seat. This was found by the FBI wiretapping. He also said that he got was trying to get his wife on corporate boards where she could earn about $150,000 on fees alone. But the governor has denied any wrongdoing. Blagojevich, 51, and Harris, 46, both from Chicago, were charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery. He was also charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field. And in return for this Blagojevich wanted his critics fired.
Opinion
This Governor is clearly corrupt. I think that he has some sort of addiction to money. I mean we all do to an extent. Most people want more money but when you go out of your way, break the law, corrupt your purpose in the U.S. Government, there is a problem. I don't understand why all these wealthy people are trying to get more and more money. They are so greedy and take and never give back. Which is a serious problem with our economy because the wealthy are not filtering the money back into the economy.

Police arrest aunt in Calif. shackled teen case

Summary
Police arrested Caren Ramirez the aunt of a 17 year old boy who showed up at a gym with shackles on his feet and had clearly been tortured. She was arrested for abusing the boy. Child services then took the boy and put into a foster home which he fled. The boy was missing until monday when he showed up at the gym. Kelly Layne Lau and Michael Shumacker were arrested for torture after the boy had showed up in the fitness center and clearly was afraid someone was going to come after him. How the boy escaped is yet to be known.
Opinion
What this aunt did was terrible to abuse the boy and have him taken away from her only to be put into a foster home where he escaped and was abducted and tortured. I don't know what would drive a person to want to torture a 17 year old boy when they had kids of their own and seemed to be very family oriented. I think that these people should be locked up for life. This is a huge crime that should not have been committed. These people are sick in the head and need some mental help to have tortured this boy.
